Whilst I do not have a direct answer you might pilot both MacJournal4 or ecto2, or MarsEdit, or RapidWeaver3.6+RapidBlog.

Whilst I'm not wholly sure about MJ4, I'm certain ecto, MarsEdit and RapidBlog sync with your blogger account allowing you to keep a local copy of your previous articles and publish new articles from your desktop instead. You can then archive your local copy using Time Machine, Backup or whatever.

Hang on... these apps might all work for loading to blogspot.com but is there a way to archive an existing site? Also, Ecto looks very interesting but does it actually load into my existing account at Blogger or were you instead suggesting another blog altogether?

Why would I want to learn another bit of software anyway.... surely I could just learn to use Mail and mail my entries into blogger?

You got the answer:
ecto [...] sync with your blogger account allowing you to keep a local copy of your previous articles and publish new articles from your desktop

Which I verified and reinforced by saying:
Exactly. Works great for me.

...so I'm not sure exacly what part of that is unclear.

In that case, why did you ask about *exactly that* in the first place?
