Is there something wrong with my AirPods?

Hello all,

I just got these today and I don't find them very loud. I am using them with Spotify and I find that I have to turn the volume all the way up.

I have set the Spotify settings to extreme quality and turned off 'enable audio normalisation'.
I understand the AirPods do not go right inside your ear like the Powerbeats so noise isolation will not be the best but I expected them to a bit louder.

Is this common with Spotify or do you think my AirPods are faulty? I have an iPhone 8 plus if anyone is wondering.

I use Apple Music, so I can’t attest to Spotify. Try testing them with another music source if you can see if there’s a difference. But I find them to be loud enough. Perhaps you are not just adjusted to them yet.

I think I am going to stick with this then and only use Spotify on my Mac.

Haven't changed Apple Music default settings as they were good from the get go.

I don't use the equaliser as any manipulation of the original source is a no-go zone for me personally.

I think I am going to have to return these.
Having gone from Spotify to Apple Music which is slightly louder..I still am not satisfied with the loudness overall. I don't even like my music blazing loud as I know that can damage your hearing long term....but when I am listening too for example an album from the 1990's I have to put the volume at max and even then it's not loud. When I am on the bus or train I have to put the volume at max as well and I still am not getting loud sound.

I am not sure if its the fit or I just have a faulty set of pods. I am thinking if I should try my luck and see if I get better luck with a new set of pods or if I should try the beats x or Powerbeats.

It's a shame because I loved the idea of having no wires and being completely wireless....but when I read online people are saying that their AirPods are loud at only 50% of the volume so something isn't right somewhere???

I listen to music music through streaming from my mobile data since I get unlimited data? Is it better to actually download the songs onto my phone instead of streaming?

If it doesn't, then there's an issue - contact @SpotifyCares on Twitter....this help account is one of the BEST customer support contacts I've ever used. I am not using Spotify anymore....I've switched to Apple Music (well I get a free 3 months trial) and tbh I am actually preferring the layout/interface to Spotify's.

I haven't tried downloaded offline music yet....only streamed music using wifi and mobile data. Music that has just come out recently sounds quiet loud but music created in ages ago doesn't sound loud at all.
I am thinking I might have a faulty pair or maybe I don't get a great fit with the AirPods and I should try something else. The AirPods do not fall off my ears though soo I am not sure how true that is.

No I didn’t return them. Had them since launch day and haven’t had any volume issues until iOS 11. So it’s not the AirPods. It’s this buggy iOS 11. I usually keep the volume at max or the setting before max. Now max volume feels low.

Why does it feel this isn't a universal problem though? Seems only some of us are having this problem....

Not that it means much, but my worst album for loudness is Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic (BSSM) - the CD was recorded abysmally low, but the 2 you mentioned above are louder than it. The versions of BSSM on Apple Music however, are louder than my CD recording.

I think I might try out the Powerbeats even though the reviews for them are not so great or get some AirPods switched over to make sure the ones I have are not faulty...

I think the sound quality when I use my MacBook Pro along with the app boom 3d makes such a huge difference
