When swiping left, I see the search bar is halfway overlapping the menu bar. Is this a glitch? Ugh, so visually ugly. It doesn't look right.

As a side note, are we really going back to iOS 6 in terms of swiping left to a search bar? Is there any way to turn this off? I don't want to have to keep swiping left by accident and getting this... especially as I can just swipe down and search right there.

Smh wow!!! This was reported in all of the betas as well. I personally never saw this happen, but many PB and devs saw and reported it. Sigh.

You can turn off Siri suggestions which would leave it as just a blank page, but there is no way to turn the entire search screen off. The idea is proactive search and apps by swiping right, and local search/apps by swiping down. Kind of redundant, I agree.

Clarification: is it even supposed to swipe left and show the search bar? That disappeared from iOS 7 and 8, so is it making a return to iOS 9 or is it a glitch?

Edit: Never mind, thanks for clarifying mconk. Ugh, definitely too redundant.

I said the same thing at first but changed my mind over time. The swipe to the right will learn your usage patterns and begin after a while making suggestions which do become nice. Each morning I open the same apps. Predictive Siri (what the slide over is called) has learned about my app usage and now populates those for me each morning. Same thing later in the day when I listen to music. You also get a quick update on some news and your commonly called contacts along with Nearby for searches like Yelp would do. I think with time you might find you like it. Its similar but different than Spotlight found by puling down on the screen.

If you turn on Siri suggestions, it does become quite useful over time. Suggests frequent apps/contacts, locations, news etc...

I wish I could use Siri. I'm deaf so can't hear - no real point for Siri there :(
This page is for suggestions...they're calling them 'Siri suggestions' as a part of proactive search. It learns your usage over time and suggests things based off usage, location, etc. You can turn this on under the spotlight search> 'Siri Suggestions'. This does come in handy over time as you use your phone with the new OS.

Not making fun of you about being deaf. But in what way does Siri suggested apps displayed on a screen have anything to do with hearing?

Also the overlapping bug was an early beta bug and got fixed in PB 3/DP 5 and now seems to have popped up again. Back in beta when it happened a temp fix was the slide down the old search from the home screen and dismiss it. Then the proactive search would be aligned correctly (until it happened again)

From the screenshot the OP posted, the feature was turned off and they had a blank search screen. I don't think he/she knew that proactive 'Siri' meant anything other than voice feedback.

Oh how I miss Nearby. Why Apple had it available during the entire beta and then took it out for every country except US and China in 9.0 GM and 9.1 beta is beyond me...and annoying.

So even though I can't hear Siri (and speak that well), you'd recommend I leave Siri on?

No, just enable “Siri Suggestions” in Settings > Spotlight. It has absolutely nothing to do with Siri, it is only called that way.
Ohhh, okay. Thanks! I'll give it a try.

I'm sure the UI glitchness is a case of a .0 release. Apple should be aware of it now and fix it by 9.01/9.1. No biggie.

I've got the issue as the OP
Also does anyone else's when you search for anything e.g. formula one, when you press show more in bing only take some of the text across into search - not the full amount?
