I'm trying to find a desktop for the time being until I drop $2000+ on a new system. SOmeone is going to sell me a early 2008 dual quads with 4GB of ram and the standard 256GB ATI card. I've used this card before, it's not bad, I'm only planning on using it for motion graphics. Some Cinema 4d (basic I"m just a beginner at that), and web page development. CSS, Scripting, HTML with illustrator and photoshop to create graphics for it.

I'm not too worried about the web development, I'm sure this can handle it. I'm more interested how it will work with After Effects. I do plan on droping about $150 on memory upgrades (per amazon and newegg's price) to about 12-16GB of ram. I can always drop another better video card with 1GB of ram for like $150 too. So am I wasting time, or is this a good deal for a computer for now to get me by with decent upgrades so I can save up for a newer Mac Pro in the future?

So total:

Computer: $350 dual quads
RAM: $150
Video Card: $150
Total: $650

I was looking at a 2006 model, but this seemed like a great deal, seeing that it's a dual quad core and will be able to run the latest OS without hacking.

Hello,

If you're not planning on upgrading it more than that, nor planning on keeping it for a long while, then get it. Getting a 2009+ mac Pro is a much better idea if you want to keep it for a long time.

That 2008 will be nice until you decide to get your next machine (guessing the 2015-2016 nMP?).
