Is this a good deal?

I plan on purchasing a Powerbook. I was originally looking at a MB or MBP but now this deal has come along and got me thinking.

17" LCD
1.67 Ghz G4 processor
100gb HD
128mb videoRam
1gb Ram
Backlit keyboard
super drive (burns DVDs)

Includes iLife 06, 10.3 and the 10.4 upgrade CD (All original disks).
Also includes the Dvi--> vga adapter and the power adapter extension cord.
Have original box and manuals as well.

How much do you think this is worth, i dont want to get ripped off and i want to pay a reasonable price. This isnt over eBay or anything, i can meet this guy in person with a personal transaction.

I wouldn't pay more than $1400, especially when you can get refurbed 15in MBPs from Apple for $1549.

But that's just me.

If you can't wait for certain universal apps then I'd say go for it. It sounds like a great computer and you are probably going to get a great price with the introduction of the intel macs. I wouldn't pay more than 1400 for it though, but that's just my poorself who can't pay for anything apart from college anymore!

You can still get the 17" 1.67 Ghz Refurbs for around 1800 - 2000 at the apple store. So used its worth around 1300 - 1600.
It should be under a year old, so you can still get apple care if the original owner doesnt have it already.

He is asking $1700 (CDN). I havent bargained yet, but I am not sure. There are minor damagaes, slight dents, a little warp, etc. The MBP refurb is not available to me here in Canada for that wonderful price of $15--. Here it costs $1799 + 15% tax for the 1.83Ghz model which is quite expensive.

I just googled that price, and the exchange comes out as 1523 USD, not quite a good deal.

That is just his asking price, I could ask for like $1500 CDN or something. Not sure yet. Should i save up for a MBP instead? A new or refurb one. Your thoughts please.

You might want to give Amazon a chance, I just got a better deal on a new MBP over an Apple refurb of the same model (1.83GHz). I don't know how Amazon does in Canadia, though.

Do you really need or want a G4 processor? ie. is PowerPC a must? If not, then go Intel. No sense in spending all that money on yesterday's technology.
