Is this a good IMAC to start with?

I am new to the Imac world and I just bought one for $400, used one of course. It's a Mid 2011 21.5 inch the specs are 8GB of Ram, Quad Core intel i7, with 1 TB HDD. Will this be good enough for photo editing and video rendering? or what suggestions do you guys have? I would like to hear what are your thoughts? maybe increase the ram and upgrade to sdd? thanks
