Hey! I've come across an oppritunity to buy a 15" powerbook 1.33 ghz with 1gb. Battery is decent, and the seller says he'll sell it for $800. Is this a good deal? I know, you'll tell me to check ebay, and I did, but the prices were pretty scattered. I want to know what my trusty macrumors think...

Let me know please!!

Assuming it's still in good condition and you have the opportunity to check it out before you buy it, yes, that's probably a pretty good buy. If you have the chance to get your hands on it, everything looks about right, and the machine is still covered under AppleCare, then yes, it's a very good buy.

I noticed on your sig you have a 12" powerbook 1ghz. Why get a slight bump in speed and screen size on a "fading" technology. Save up an extra 300 bucks and get a macbook?

I no longer have that 12" PB. I sold it so I would have enough to purchase a new merom MBP, but I should have carefully thought it through before I sold it because I kind of need a laptop between now and when my MBP gets delivered. So I've been looking around, trying to find a good deal on a decent powerbook to get me through till my new MBP arrives. I did find a guy who might sell me his 12" 867mhz pb for $475ish, but I still don't know. We'll see, I just wanted to see if 800 was a good buy.

Thanks!

That's what I've been thinking about. Because I'd want to be able to turn around in a month and get all of my money back. So that's what i'm thinking about.

Does any one know the going price for a 12" iBook 800mhz g4 by chance?

Thanks for the input!

I doubt you'd be able to do that. Finding buyers for those PBs are getting harder and harder - It'll be especially difficult if there happen to be any updates to the MB between now and then.

They don't seem to be sold that much, but I'd say somewhere around $400.

Depends how much you trust the guy. I would be willing to plunk down the extra change if I knew what I was getting. That being said, here are what some other people are selling newer powerbooks for... From then on, it's your call.

Basically, if you hold out long enough, you can do better. But 800 bucks isn't bad. Not the greatest deal, but it is fair.
