Hello..

Looking to get an SSD drive for my 2008 2.8 MP? Newegg has them on sale right now..

OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Or would I be better off getting this one?

OCZ Vertex Plus OCZSSD2-1VTXPL120G 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

I know one is a sata II and one is a sata III. Hoping I am not going to run into to many problems. The price is nice on both.

I'd go with the sata 3 one if you plan on getting a new MP next year.

And I'd go with that Vertex 2 due to problems with the SandForce on the Sata 3. In case I'll be looking for Sata 3 SSD, I will choose one with Marvel, for example.

Thank you both for the recommendations. I am thinking this is a pretty good price for either one. I was looking at the OWC one but it is twice as much for both the Sata II or Sata III.

Which SSD would you both recommend, since I am reading about the problems on the OTZ forum. I was hoping not to have to spend quite this much on an SSD hence the reason for a little excitement when I saw this one!

OCZ seems to have more failures than any other SF-2200 based drives. I have seen very little issues with OWC ones. I have them and have, so far, no issues. I would stay clear of the OCZ brand for now. The Crucial and Samsung listed above will require TRIM support for best performance. Apple does not support this for 3rd party SSD's but you can get the TRIM enabler from these forums to get it working. For how long I am not sure.

Maybe Crucial M4: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148448 - Marvel based.

Or Samsung 470: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147125
it is Sata 2, OK if you do not plan to upgrade your MP. I will not be that afraid to go with OWC or OCZ SandForce based for Sata 2 either, however Samsung SSDs are known for their reliability.

So the real question is do I want to spend the few extra bucks and go with the owc or get the others and download the trim enabler.

Thanks again guys mucho appreciated. Even though the price is nice, I am going to steer away from them. Between the recommendation here and what I have been reading in the ocz forums. I will wait a little longer to purchase one of the ocz ssd's.
