I'm on my new 27" iMac (3.4GHz core i7) and when I type - a word document, on a web site or even for the title of this post - my system either gives me the spinning wheel or the words I type are delayed.

I currently have Firefox, Word, Chrome and Safari open. Firefox is using the most % CPU and Real Memory (1.59GB).

Would installing more memory help this? I have 4GB installed right now, but I have been thinking about adding more (16GB).

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 4: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Check Activity Monitor and look at how much free memory you have and page ins and page outs.

Also why do you need to have all 3 of those browsers open?

With Firefox closed I have 1.64GB of free memory, 5.34 GB of Page ins and 517.3 GB of Page outs.

I had all three browsers open when I was determining what the cause of this could be. I would like to think that the hardware in this (new) system wouldn't hiccup with having three browsers open because I know other people do much more at one time. What do you think the information above says about the memory?

You do need more ram as your page-outs is way big. If you had enough ram it would be exactly 0.
