Hi.

Every red peak that you can see on the picture, the HD makes the tipycal HD scratch noise. It happens sometimes, every 30 seconds, or more and sometimes without doing anything more than writing or surfing with Safari.

The red peak means that HD is writing something.

I have to say that a bit down about hardware problems, but concerning OS, it's better than I expected. It's awesome. It took me more than a month to make my decision between Windows or Mac OS, but I have made the correct choice.

funny, have you called apple?
it may not be a "problem" now, but it could indicate an upcoming failure further down the road.

if you have applecare, just moan and whine until they replace it. i don't have it myself but i herd of lots of people who got things replaced pretty easy.

Well, the computer arrived yesterday.

The thing is if this is really a problem, or it is normal.

I can send it back, but I need the computer.

I honestly have no idea :(
all the macs i have been around have been very quiet so it kinda surprises me to hear about it.
I do however have an external drive, and that thing is noisy as hell, always have been, nothing wrong with it.

Oh boy. There's definitely been several threads regarding the loud Seagates. As i type, mine is at the Apple store awaiting a replacement (hopefully WD) HDD.

I have the same "problem". I received my iMac yesterday and the hard disk makes a lot of noise (compared to the fans).
How do I check if I have a seagate disk ?

Replacement HD? Or replacement iMac?

Replacement HDD. The unit I had has a perfect screen...no yellow and no dead pixels so I've decided to just replace the harddisk. I have a MBP 17 at home that I can use in the meantime. It out to be done later today. So I will post my results. But the tech told me that it's a crap shoot which one Apple sends them because there is only 1 part number for both the Seagate and the WD 1 TB drive. He ordered me 2 to increase the odds of getting a WD.

Keep us posted to see if it's better and don't forget to see if it's the Seagate or the WD drive.

The current is Seagate and I'll keep you updated with the new one.

I ordered a 1,5 TB disk to TimeMachine everything, I was just done with copying all my data from previous computer ...
