Is this a scam?

I found some contact info: (here)

  • Customer service: (210) 247-9653
  • Address US (Main): 2206 NW Loop 410 San Antonio, TX 78230-5309

You can always call. A 'Who-is' search may not be a bad idea either. Even contacting the San Antonio BBB could yield useful info. :)

If it is legitimate, not a bad price indeed. But I'd recommend checking it out first.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. The registration date came from the whois search. In the linked thread, the provided phone number was called and it was a dead end, although it seems to be different than the one you gave.

Seem to be too many contraindicators to me. How much less than an official Apple refurb is this? Not worth the difference in price. And look what else pops up on their site... $200 unlocked 3G iPhones? Please.... :rolleyes: Just walk away. (In case I'm being unclear again, there is no unlocking mechanism for the 3G iPhone to date, and even if they are sold SIM unlocked in some countries, there's no way they're going to be bought there, have their contractual fees taken care of, transported to the US, and sold at $205).

Answering machine picked and it is a US residence, the answer machine greeting is as follows..

Hi you have reached xxxxxxx residence, this number is being used by a false website, superelectronics and this is not their number, they have been using it for the past few years, I wouldn't trust it. I have also checked the address and there is no business by that name at the address in San Antonio. [end post]

If you ever find a deal on a product that doesn't offer deals and doesn't allow any other price, it's a scam.

It's about $190 difference in price. But yeah, maybe this is too shifty. I just wish that there weren't so many damn scam artists out there. This sucks. I'm tired of this fraudulent crap! They get my hopes up and then it ends up being a stupid scam. Screw it. I guess I'll just get a damn Apple refurb.:mad:

This combined with m1stake's info on the actual phone number, the answer is clear. Scammer strikes again! :p
 
Love these PC people that think there is a huge discount with Apple products to SPECIAL dealers on current products. :rolleyes:

This dork can sell Macs for less than Best Buy's wholesale cost ... hmm, imagine that.

Though, I do imagine pawn shops can buy new machines in the box for less than wholesale from someone looking to score their next fix.

I don't think there's really a maybe involved, sorry... :(

If money is extremely tight, and this is absolutely the Mac you want... these are obvious options, I guess, but here they are anyways...

- Consider a forum purchase from a user who is well established on the forum in question and who provides you some sort of credentials (e.g. Heatware or Beerology feedback, eBay feedback, etc).
- Save up and get the refurb through Apple later and/or wait out to the next round of Macs, when this round will become successively cheaper
- Be on the lookout for rebate offers from Amazon, which sometimes can be fairly compelling

Crap it doesn't come with Mac OS Server unlimited, RAID card, 2 high end graphics cards, 4x1TB drives and 32GB of memory.

What a ripoff, joe's computer shack offers a Mac Pro with all this and more for the same price.

How about dual optical drives??? Oh, and we can't forget about the Thai massage.
 
Sorry to put you all through this grind. I guess it was good for me to be suspicious of this. I'll just continue to save for the refurb on Apple's website.
 
BTW, have you taken a look at Amazon?
mkrishnan's got a good point there. Rebates are nice, and they still offer free shipping. Could be a nice alternative to a refurb, especially if the model you want isn't available when you purchase.
