I was doing a random gesture on the iPad keyboard and I got this. Is this a documented feature?

Oh well, I thought it was new since it's extremely buggy and that I've never heard of it, but I just got an iPad recently so that explains it :D

You can move the keyboard up and down the screen too as needed. It does not have to stay in the bottom.

Cool, can you edit the topic title so it's clear it's resolved and about existing split keyboard, to save others time.

How are you getting app suggestions?!

Mine never showed since beta 4

Have you tried rebooting or doing Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings? Might be a bug still lingering from b3.

Yep..... even tried changing regions and other stuff... nothing.
FWIW, it appeared fine in b3.

There are two drawbacks to the split keyboard:

For some reason, you lose the word suggestions, (even though there is space on the right).

Something that's been since it was first available, it might cover what you are typing, depending on the app, sometimes moving it up or down may reveal the text, other times it does not.

That being said, I do prefer the split keyboard for 2-thumb typing. And it does work with the new two-finger text highlighting gestures. (iPad Mini 1st gen.)

Hint: hold the keyboard symbol down (bottom right corner), and it will give you option to split. When split, you get the option to merge (unsplits keyboard, keeps it where you've placed it), or dock & merge which unsplits it and brings it back to the bottom.

What is really nice is the prompt on the keyboard to use the camera for credit card number entry.

I hate how buggy the split keyboard is. It just acts weird, when it pops up, it's connected, but then it isn't. And also the frame rate of just everything is destroyed by split keyboard. All of that has happened since iOS 8.0 beta and it has never been fixed.

I just wish they would add copy and paste. Come on Apple!
It's all there: IMG_0372 edit.jpg IMG_0373 edit.jpg

I'm not experiencing this on iPad Mini 1st gen., but, I do think apps need to be compatible with it for it to work well with that app.

It's a system level feature. It has nothing to do with the app unless the app uses it's own custom keyboard.

Yeah I was about to say, it has nothing to do with whether it's a stock app or a third party app. In fact, it's the worst in Safari. Bad everywhere else.
