Always: Do a WHOIS on the domain

Here's a tipoff: "!6 years of customer service!" vs. Website Creation Date: 15-Apr-2007

Also: No charge Cards -- not that you'd want to give your charge card info, but insisting on Western Union or wire transfer (which are untraceable and unrecoverable) is a Big Red Flag.

Wow, its a scam? It looks like a perfectly legitimate site.

Amazing, that, huh?
It takes a lot of skill and professionalism to populate a web template, invent a logo and register a domain. They must be perfectly legitimate...

That's not a Big Red Flag, that's a hand-grenade being tossed into your lap.

Just goes to show you, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Well I am sorry If I don't have the same knowledge of computers as you. I don't buy stuff online at all, unless its at a real site (ie. Apple). Heck, I call them instead of doing an online order.

I am not asking for computer knowledge, just plain ordinary common sense.

When you call them to order, they will be very, very helpful and give you all the assurances you need --- until they have your money. Then they will be impossible to call.

A pretty cover does not equal a good book.

Forming an opinion that an unknown company is perfectly legitimate based on the superficial appearance of the website is kinda risky.

And saying as much in a public forum of geeks is guaranteed to get you razzed ;)

Edit: Here's another tidbit-- there is supposedly a "Merchant Certification" from Eucertonline.org - to give you the idea that there is some form of external certification that the site is safe.
Guess who registered Eucertonline.org ? Same dude who registered the scamsite. Figures....

It may not take an incredible amount, but it is usually a lot more than most scammers put in to their sites.

You give a valuable lesson: a good looking site != legitimate site. But tarnish its with you arrogant overtones: talking down to others != helping others.

This Site is a SCAM - Western Union to Italy, only 30 day old website.

Do not even think about buying anything from them. They have cleverly set up a very sophisticated fake eCommerce site, and every price is deliberately the lowest on the web to catch the price search engines. Yahoo is still referring people to them. I'm sure that there must be some culpability on Yahoo's part for their part in propagating this scam. I almost sent them $832 for a Sony Desktop, until I did some research.

This kind of site will make them tens of millions of US Dollars in cash before the Italian Government catches them.

Olivia Mathis in Rome is getting all the money, and there is no merchandise.

Any payment goes via Western Union to the following person:

"The payment for your order must be sent to our payments representative, Mrs. Olivia Mathis.
Here is all necessary information:

Name: Olivia Mathis
Address: Via Marmorata 171
City: Rome
Country: Italy
Total amount: Please check the invoice below payment instructions."

http://www.electrodelivered.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=436 $896 for an Apple MacBook 13" Black Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16Ghz 1GB 160GB Super Drive.

This Macbook was just announced. There is no way that anyone has it for $400 below market.

Seems to be too good to be true? ...It is!

Here is a reply that I got when I asked to talk to a person about my order in an email:
"Hello,

We cannot take or make orders by phone. Our products generate enormous interest. We are getting more than 4500 calls and 600 orders a day.
Also, in order to keep records for our transactions we rather communicate with our customers by email.

Thank you for your interest in our products!

If it's too good to be true, then it probably is...

Anybody who follows sites like these half deserve to fall into the traps. Pure ignorant. If you really think there is a deal on a slightly dodgy looking website, that NOBODY has heard of or bought from, and the fact that the guy only accepts money orders and you buy anyway..

World is getting really stupid eh?

Just for grins, I called their customer service number. It's just a pre-recorded message telling you that "all our operators are busy" and to contact them online.

Consider this: in the past, retailers have been penalized by Apple for offering just-released items at discounts that make the cost significantly lower than that sold by other retailers. Generally the best a retailer can do is knock off a few dollars. An example would be B&H Photo and Video. They're a legit retailer and often offer the lowest price on Mac hardware, but only by 5-10 dollars, at most.

Bottom line: Apple simply won't allow new products to get heavily discounted right out the door. Retailers that claim to do it are either scamming you, or are about to have their product supply cut off by Apple.

EDIT: Also, their alleged US office seems to be a cul de sac in suburban Illinois.

It's pretty obviously a scam, either they just take your money, or more than likely they do this thing where they aggressively try to get you to buy various accessories and such for it. If you say no to that, you often just never see the item.

...And saying as much in a public forum of geeks is guaranteed to get you razzed ;)...

Don't include everyone, or even most people in the above assertion. I think you are being way too harsh on this poster also, and I can see from the outset that this site is fraudulent.

It takes slightly more than common sense actually, maybe you should remember that. Is has everything to do with proficiency with computers, but more specifically, the WWW. Not every person on this forum has that proficiency.
