I recently switched from Android to Apple (iPhone 12) after about 10 years. Everything is going fine EXCEPT the notifications.

I am in the Google ecosystem and have the Gmail app on my phone.

I am receiving notifications on my phone which is fine. If I go to Gmail on my desktop computer and respond to the email there, the notification will continue to appear in my lock screen and notification center on my iPhone. This is highly annoying because I have all kinds of gmail notifications on my iPhone that have already been actioned on my computer (ie. the emails are no longer unread).

Is this how it's supposed to work?

Long time android user bumping this thread hoping someone can let me know :)

I will say it’s the way the Gmail app has been programmed and maybe doesn’t sync read messages in the background? (Unless you’ve got low power mode on your iPhone which can affect background app refresh and syncing.)

For example, I have an iPhone for work and have to use Microsoft’s Outlook app on it. When I’ve read an email on the work computer, the notification disappears from the Lock Screen and Notification Centre on the iPhone.

In my personal life I have an iPhone and iPad. I have a Hotmail.com account added to the stock Apple Mail app. If I read on one device, it’ll sync and clear the notification on the other device (though may take a couple of minutes before it does).

Interesting. I also tried the regular iPhone mail app and it was still handling things the same way.

So maybe it's a Gmail thing.

Anyone with Gmail have the same issues?

On my phone, sometimes Gmail notifications disappear within seconds, and sometimes they are still there hours later after reading.

I just swipe them away if so.

Sorry, just wanted to bump this thread one last time to see if this is happening to anyone else or if this is how the notifications are supposed to work. Thanks!
