So I had been getting awesome battery life till recently when I installed a couple of new apps and enabled some push notifications on others. Now its become really bad and its draining within one day. The apps I installed were Whatsapp and I enabled tweet notifcations in twitter for a few of my friends. Before this, I had push notifications on for facebook, gamecenter, and the normal stock apps like mail etc. My icloud was also set to push but my battery life was great. I just want to understand if its these apps that are causing my battery to drain. I did some research on push notifications and this is my understanding of how it works.
1) Your phone is always connected to the apple push notification service (APNS) either through wifi or data.
2) App Provider receives data -> This is pushed to APNS -> APNS pushes it to your device.
So in theory if I have push notifications enabled for even one app like I did before, my phone would have to keep that line open with apples APNS. So it doesnt matter how many apps I enable push notifications for it shouldnt affect my battery so much. I know the screen turns on etc. But does it make that big a difference? If anyone with more understanding could shed some light I'd be grateful. Thanks!
