So just been approached by one of the partners of the firm I work for, demanding a new iPhone as hers is broke.

Its a 1st gen 16GB iPhone, never been updated since she had it so I assume its running 1.1.4. I fired up itunes, hit restore and waited for the update 3.0.1 to download. The extraction started got all the way to the end verification and failed giving me the error 23. ok.

Then I restarted into DFU mode and did the restore again, the screen went white and again I got error 23.

So, is there any pointers or is this just an attractive paper weight?

I mentioned this to someone else who is having a similar problem, try iRecovery... its a command line program for Win/Mac.. It's main purpose is to get it out of the recovery loop for people trying to downgrade, but i don't see why it wouldn't work for you. Below is one link do a google search.

Error 23 means there is a radio problem with the iPhone...all radios are dead. This means no WiFi, no edge, no bluetooth, nothing. It's a brick.

There have been reports on the Apple forums and Macrumos about how not even the Apple Genius guys could get the phones in DFU mode.
