iPhone Is this iPhone safe to buy?

Long time reader but just signed up & 1st post...

Looking to buy a new, sealed iPhone 5, IMEI number checks out as unactivated etc but in the "Contract Status" it's down as "under contract"

This is what the IMEI number comes back with..

The way I understand this (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is that the phone was purchased and they signed up for a carrier contract but never actually turned on the phone and connected to the network.

Did you call the carrier directly and check the IMEI with them? I know some of the websites out there can be unreliable/wrong.

Not sure who the carrier of the phone is, but if you desire to unlock it, since it is attached to a 2 year contract, the carrier will likely not do it and you will have to pay a grey market vendor.

how much are you saving? Also as other said what carrier are you locked to? Seems like it might be simpler to buy a unlocked iPhone or direct from the carrier. Also you are a few months away from the next gen Iphone 3-5 months most likely.
