Is this normal or is my SECOND MBA faulty too?

This keeps happening.

I am using the air, then the fan comes on and everything slows right down.

I cant even watch a youtube video without it slowing right down.

Is this normal for when the fan kicks in? or have i just been unlucky and got a second faulty mba

You have to figure out exactly what proc's are running. Youtube is notorious for being proc. intensive due to vid. format.

Do the fans kick on w. anything else? My fans will crank up to 6200rpm but only when doing CPU intensive tasks. Otherwise they hover right around 2500.

I just installed istat pro, how do i tell if both cores are running?

When i bring up istat i get the following:
CPU A 52
Heat sink A 44
Enclosure bottom 38
HD 37
Fan 5952

I was running ms word, using safari and msn messenger. The fan kicked in while it was sitting on my bed, could it be the heat is caused by sitting on the bed sheet and generating heat from the mattress?

I went to a site called gametrailers.com and the stream from that site was stuttering too. After closing the lid for 15 mins i opened it ad it works fine.

Just annoying having to stop doing something for 15 mins on a product soo expensive because of heat.

It only gives a reading for heat sink A and CPU A. Is this right? should there not be a heatsink B??

How an i tell if both cores are running?

Ruining with it sat on your bed is a really bad idea as you'll likely be blocking the air vents which will lead to overheating and this will cause one of the cores to shut down.

My MBA usually hovers around 2500 rpm or so and only seems to crank up to 6500 rpm when running Fusion/XP Pro with dual-core support enabled.

Other things to consider when trying to decide if your MBA is defective:

- What is your environment like? Is it hot in your house/apt? If so, then the MBA will have a harder time trying to cool itself off.

- When you're using the MBA on the bed, are the vent slots on the bottom blocked? Blocked vents lead to heat build-up.

- What other apps are running in the background? The more things going on, the bigger the load on the system, and that means more heat generated.

One option is to drag Activity Monitor into your dock and run it, then right-click the dock icon and set Dock Icon > Show CPU Usage. You can then close the Activity Monitor window and the dock icon will display what each core is doing. Optionally set it to start at login so it's always running.

Put it on my lap and the fan has gone off and its running at 2600 the fan that is.

The two cores are both at 2-3 bars.

Thanks guys, i think the problem was sitting down on the bed.

My fan just kicked in again with the macbook on my lap. The dual cores are at around half way.

Windows surfer is taking up 30%, whats that?. From when i started typing this my dual cores are doen to 3-4 bars (i think theres around 12)

Ok both cores are now at 100%, all im doing is using msn messenger and watching trailers.

When i bring up my widgets there is this program it says WindowsSer... thats taking up around 50% of power, what is this? i cant find it in programs list.

Is my Air faulty? im watching a trailer and on msn and its using both cores at their fullest.

JUST NOTICED SOMETHING, THE AIR HAS STOPPED CHARGING EVEN THOUGH ITS ON THE POWER CABLE. THE LITTLE WHITE BOX WHERE YOU PLUG THE POWER ADOPTER ONTO IS SO HOT I CANT HOLD IT MORE THAN 10 SECONDS.

Plugged it out and back in and now its started to carge again.

Are these problems normal? or should i swap it over again?

The fan was at 6200 rpm for almost 2 hours. So i turned it off and back on RIGHT AWAY, the fan has been off for almost an hour (well at 2400 rpm not off) and i cant hear it.

Is this MBA faulty?

If the was on because of the temp surely me turning off and RIGHT BACK ON didnt cool the air down that much.
