I working on a project on Xcode and it was indexing for like 30 minutes and the cpu was going crazy on i5 early 2011 MBP 8gb ram and 1tb hdd running os x 10.8.5 with xcode 5 i took screenshots of the cpu activity while xcode was indexing and i took another one after i forced it to quit. also fans were running full speed at 6200 rpm and temps were over 90

That certainly shouldn't happen on a regular basis. I can't say I've ever had it happen to me once, but I may have just not noticed.

What program is that in your screenshots?

XCode doesn't do any indexing as far as I know. Generally you can build (compile, link, etc.) a large project in a few seconds. You shouldn't ever have to force quit XCode. You have a big, weird problem.

Xcode regularly indexes your project files. The docs I think too. See attached image.

Sometimes Xcode seems to get lost in its indexing. I've killed it too in the past because of CPU usage and loud fans. :mad:
