Is this ok to do for TM and Photos

Because my NAS won't backup from TM and only use so much room, and my Photos library is too big now for my internal drive I need a solution.

Is this ok to do? Buy an external USB HDD, say 4Tb and partition it into 2 partitions each of 2Tb, and use my Photo's library on one and use the other partition for TM?

Or is having these both on one drive bad? I also use an offsite cloud backup service that backs up my Mac as well I may add?

I don't see a problem with this as long as your offsite backup service will backup the USB HDD. I have noticed that some Cloud backup services do not backup USB HDD.

It isn't no, but I have iCloud photo, and another offsite online backup service.

So the offsite one backups up all files, and the USB would be TM and Photos. All I'm worried on is Photos library really nowadays. If the USB went bad, I would lose TM and Photos library but they are on the offsite and iCloud so safe?

It begs the bigger question for me as well, without Time Capsule that isn't sold officially now, what do multiple Mac users use for TM? I wanted a "just works" solution, to have MacBooks and have to plugin external drives is not very 2019 really. Is there any other solution for multiple Macs to backup using TM to one place? I've heard NAS are unreliable.

Or should I keep on my 1Tb internal fusion, use "optimised" version instead of full, and use the external USB for TM? would it backup the photos library as an optimised version then o
