MAC PRO 2.8GHZ NEHALEM (3GB/1TB/HD5770)
are the stats.
I found it new sold by a shop, but it is very expensive, around 2.5K euros. BUT, is it still worth buying? Either specs wise or...other?

To be honest it looks like for similar amount of money you could get new Mac Pro with much better specs, and performance.

I personally wouldn't spend that much for that machine, but to each their own. "New" or not - it has been sitting for a while.

For 2.5K euro's you can get a much better spec mac pro 5,1 then that. I wouldn't pay more then 1K for that spec. 5,1 Mac Pro's are worth buying as can be upgraded relatively cheaply, but that is a ridiculous price for a base 5,1

Unless had a deep need for Apple's warrantee, then it is not a good price. There are used versions of the same that are much cheaper.

It is kind of strange that a shop could have held onto a new one this long. There was a period when shipments of new Mac Pros were pulled from EU market. That should have dried up almost all of the inventory. If this seller couldn't move it then kind of wonder what was (and maybe still is ) the problem.

Well my thinking was not so much as to what the hardware can do, but what the hardware might be worth it as a full computer. Meaning if there are people after these computers and so they hold an artificial high price in the second hand market. NOT that I would sell it, but it would be nice for once to keep a computer that has some collection value. Just for the sake of collecting it.

If money is no object, sure. A "new old-stock" Rolex from the 1960's might bring $30,000, whereas used only $6000. I don't know if mac 2010's are collectible. They stopped making them, that's true. But they might have made like 750,000 of them. Just ask yourself if you love it, and the experience it will give you, and whether you might like a new mac pro instead (which are powerful, portable, and quiet, but somehow doesn't mesmerize like 2 mm thick aluminum of the cmp). If you want it, want to be able to upgrade your video card for - well forever - and like pci-E slots and want to cram 4 x 8 gb drives into it, then buy it. That said, of course if you can find a NOS classic mac pro for less that would be better. Scour the internet, ebay, and see what's available. I think NOS will be getting rarer, quickly. p.s. are you thinking of keeping it in the box, unopened? That would be an interesting experiment. Crazy, but interesting.

Last year I bought my mac pro 5,1, it was brand new in the box and had been sitting for 2 years. Was it expensive, yes it was, but its so rare to find a perfect new one, and this one was very high spec. I think the one you listed is overpriced, its actually more than I paid for mine which was a 12 core 3.06ghz BTO model. However, if you REALLY want a new one, its up to you if you want to pay the price. Its VERY rare to find a mac pro tower still unopened in its box.

It's way over priced.

The macs that tend to be worth the most as collectors items are rare and/or unusual ones: G4 Cube, G4 iMac, etc. There is nothing rare or unusual about the Mac Pro (or even the G5 PowerMac that looks exactly like it).

Given that you can buy a Dual CPU 4,1 for $400 that was $3,500 new (there was a forum member posting about that a few days ago) I don't see how you'd ever get your money (or a profit) back.
