A little background.

My wife bought this phone as an unlocked phone, i thake that to mean jailbroken and carrier lock broken. I came home from abroad and her cousin was messing with it. My wife claims that it was like this when she got it.

It seems to be broken. Some more background. She went abroad herself 2 days after my return and bought a network locked from the u.k. I have been looking at these two phones for a day now. The locked phone I have succesfully jailbroken with redsn0w and network unlocked with ultrasnOw. The phone seems to be ok.

That leaves the original. basically , at some point it had a red battery indicator , i have not seen that for the last day at least. Unless plugged into the power supply this phone appears completely lifeless. if it is plugged into the power it displays an itunes icon along with a usb cable, which i guess is indicating it wants me to plug into computer and run itunes. I am also presuming that it is somehow in dfu mode, but without power.

if i do plug into computer , i cannot switch on phone or anything it seems. itunes cannot detect it properly.

I am wondering if this is a battery issue or something else. My wife had some communication difficulties with the seller of this phone so we are assuming he messed the phone up and sent it anyway. the phone took a long time to arrive and tracking id did not tally with his account of posting.

I am trying to do my best to fix this , for the fact that my wife may not get the money through paypal and also , her cousin may have broken the phone. I do doubt that as the phone was meant to be unlocked etc and so if it worked as it was described then my wife would not have got her cousing around.

unless the phone was jailbroken and not unlocked.

What can i do with this. I have tried to put into dfu mode and all sorts of odd combinations i have seen posted on this forum .

Any ideas?

also my wife is saying she thinks this is 2g when the seller said it was 3g. She is saying that it has a silver back and the box does not say 3g . Any ideas.

Well the seller is flat out lying. The silver back phone is a 2g, If I were you I'd try to get your money back.

However, when you see the screen with the usb chord and the itunes logo, that is recovery mode; not dfu.

To enter dfu mode, hold down the power+home button for 10 seconds, and continue holding home until itunes says its detected a phone in recovery mode.

Whether your phone is in recovery or dfu, itunes will always say recovery.
However, if your phones screen is completely blank, then it is in dfu.

if you see the itunes logo its in recovery mode

You should really confront the seller (or email if you got it online) can't believe he would do something like that

If it is in dfu mode. how could i get it out? do you thinik the battery is dead or something. My wife is trying to get the money back through paypal, this was an ebay transaction. The fact that it does nothing when not connected to power is a bit strange to me.

Is the firmware responsible for battery management. if the firmware is corrupted is it possible to have these symptoms of no life when not plugged into power supply?
