Hi again,

Im still stuck between getting a Macbook Pro or an iMac.

The reason is because Im going to go to College soon and I am not quite sure which would be the best option, desktop or laptop.

I was thinking would it be good enough for college to have an iMac then buy an iPhone and get the MobileMe service. Then I could work on my college stuff from any computer and access the files on my Phone and what not.

I just thinking having a laptop isn't really for me. So if that alternative works it would be great.

Just wondering what you guys think about it.

Thanks,

p.s. In Spain ( where I live ) people never tend to bring their laptops into college but into Uni.

hard to say really. I'm an IT manager in a department at a University and although we have a wireless LAN here and students could bring laptops into lectures, I find that very few of them actually do. I took a year out two years ago to do an MSc myself and I did take my laptop into lectures - but then I was doing an IT related degree and I found it just helped.

You've got to work out what you will actually use the computer for. If you want to take notes and access online learning materials in the classroom then get a laptop. If you just want to use it to do research and type up your essays, then get an iMac. Then again, a laptop can be used anywhere - on the sofa in front of the telly, in bed, at a desk, in the library....

Do you want to be faffed with the hastle of carrying your laptop with you into college? Most people can't be bothered, or do so little it's not worth it. Even I didn't some days and I just used a PDA to take notes.

Bottom line - it's like anything - work out what you actually want to use it for. If it's the first time you're going to college, you might actually find it more beneficial to wait until you get there and then decide

Well im doing a Bachillerato de Arte in an art college. Basically Spanish equivalant to the UK ALevels or in America ( Dont know what its called but the last 2 years of college.. )

So im going to do graphic intensive stuff and I guess I have no real use for a laptop. I mean im taking Language/philosophy/literature/religious cultures and then its all art related stuff.

I think the iMac/iPhone/MobileMe combo would fit my needs.

Thanks !!

I agree with you on that. I'm also a student and I figured that I just couldn't justify the price. Especially since I don't really need the portability of a laptop.
