Hi all,

I'm own MacBook air 4gb ram 2015 model. Which very sloooooww for Lightroom and Photoshop usage.i do not spend excessive money system rather I would invest in camera gears. I'm thinking of buying used iMac system. I came across iMac 27 inch 2.8 GHz intel Core i7 16GB 2TB. It's 2009 model with ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 mb. Is this powerful enough? Sellers asking price is 600AUD

I would really appreciate your advise on this device 🙏

Too old I'd say. Way not enough VRAM on the GPU. And not supported since many years I think. An 11 year-old computer doesn't worth 600 AUD, sorry.

Try to find a 2015+ model. It's going to be a better investment and will still be supported for a couple of years. Or check for a refurbished model on Apple's website too. You need at least a quad core with 16 GB RAM and 4 GB AMD GPU I'd say to be correct for a couple of years.

The late 2009 27" iMac was one of the best iMacs of all time. Unfortunately, the highest MacOS it can run natively is High Sierra. This machine is capable of running Mojave using dosdude1 software. My wife's iMac is the same model with 32gb of RAM, 256gb SSD and running Mojave quite nicely. All things said, you are better off looking toward the future with a 2015+ iMac (SSD) with current OS, and security updates.

2009?
TOO OLD.

Get a 2017 or 2019.
This will last you for a while.
For one that runs the best and lasts the longest, get an SSD inside.

Until a year ago I had that model. Although with 20GB RAM as well as 2TB HDD and 256GB SSD. It is still to this day a very capable machine. However, as others have said, I would try to get a 2015 system og newer. And preferably with either a built in SSD or using it with an external SSD. It makes all the difference.
