Hi,

My MacBook Pro has started doing this. It’s a 2016 MacBook Pro (two thunderbolt ports).

Is this stage lighting and is it covered by the service program that’s going on? Anyone have any experience getting it sorted.

Thanks!

It certainly looks like it, the laptop may be out of the support period though, depending when it was bought, but definitely contact Apple asap.

The service program was only valid for 5 years from purchase and the 2016 MacBook Pros are considered vintage by Apple so unless you're in France, they will not work on these anymore.

Just looked on the website and it states:-

The program covers eligible MacBook Pro models for 5 years after the first retail sale of the unit or 3 years from the start date of this program, whichever is longer.

The program started on the 15/01/21 so still within the three years so should be covered I would hope!

The document was last updated in January 2021 but the program is from well before that.
Here's an internet archive link from December 2019: 13-inch MacBook Pro Display Backlight Service Program - Apple Support (archive.org) The program began in May, 2019: Apple Finally Addresses Flexgate with New MacBook Pro Repair Program | iFixit News
At that time the program only covered computers for 4 years from the date of purchase, which was extended in January 2021.

OP:

Print out the documentation you found that seems to verify the repair period has been extended.
Make sure there is a URL included someplace so that it can be verified online at the Apple Store.
Then, with the MBP and these docs "in hand" visit the Apple Store genius bar.

No promises.
