Within the next two months:

  • iPhone with a new form factor
  • Galaxy Note8 with a refreshed form factor and 6gb of RAM, first mainstream device to do that
  • Essential phone from Rubin with a unique screen design
  • LG V30 which looks to be a refinement and improvement on both last year's and the G6
  • Pixel 2, which after last year's awesome edition (probably phone of the year for me) is eagerly awaited
And all of this on the heels of the S8 and G6.

We always get new editions of phones this time of year but it feels like this is a perfect storm of new form factors/features that are hitting all at once.

Remember a lot of this stuff is gen 1 and first gen stuff is the first to get forgotten. I will buy a new phone this fall and the only ones I'll buy will be a Pixel or and Essential nothing else is really that interesting to me.

I think this year is the best it's gonna get until they master the folding screen. For the most part technology has reached it's limits without some further development. Now if only iOS allowed for using Zedge and installing ring tones (without incorporating iTunes) and moving things around on your home screen as you wished, I might be sold! It's a 3 way battle for me this year between the Note 8, iPhone 8, and Pixel 2. Wish I could fast forward time as my Note 4 battery is taking a more progressive nose dive every day and I don't want to invest the money in a battery with new phone blood in the water so close!!

Note 4 batteries are dirt cheap.
