i would have to say no, it is a shuffle rip off

the only way to effectively use a screen on a device that small would be to have it the length or at least most of the length of the unit with the text appearing elongated so it would be easier to read..... not a square such as that, and of course an FM turner wouldnt be added to the shuffle

it looks like the ripoff from china a couple of months back forgot the name of it started with L???

Apple would not make anything that ugly. They make really great looking products, and know how to include a great form factor into the design. There won't be a shuffle with a screen. It defeats the purpose.

Apple must be licensing the basic form factor, otherwise the hounds would have been released by now.

I wonder how difficult it would be to hold that and at the same time use the controls. I don't see how you could get a decent hold on the controls and hold it nicely.

Plus - being very analytical here but why does the reflection have a small 'speck' on it? I don't see it in the main image.

I have a feeling we could still some day see a shuffle style device from apple with display, (similar to Samsung's Flash based mp3 range at the moment), but it is unlikely. I also think that the current capacity levels are spot on, much more than 1Gb would require a screen, less wouldn't be worth it. Who would want to shuffle through thousands of songs without control? if you had that much music on there, you would want some more control than a few buttons.

Not a reflection. It's not clear on the white one, but that's the USB cover:

I don't think that design will be the new SHUFFLE. But rather, I wouldn't be too surprised if, as technology advances, iPods (the main line) become that small. Compact storage may become SO compact that the pic above could hold 10 gig.

Im a little surprised at people here who pounce on any music player that isn't Apple. sure it doesn't look good, but before my iPod i had a Jens of Sweden MP3 player which, was about the size of a shuffle, had a screen which, against what people constantly say about small screens, was completely readable and very much useable.
If i opted for the 256Mb (highest at the time) storage then I may still be using it today. but because it was 128Mb i pretty much had it in my computer every couple of days and coupled with USB charging the battery NEVER died.

screens can be just for navigating menus, sorting out an EQ or simply displaying a battery metre or saying Welcome.

cummon! you people argued that the Shuffle works because you don't need to look at a screen to use a music player!

/rant over.

I'd rather see something like below, if they ever decide they need to add a display to the iPod shuffle.
