I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to work, but whenever i put a DVD or CD into my mac mini, i have to push it in probably 3/4 of the way before it sucks the disk in, at which time it makes some sounds like it is hitting the back of the drive. It works fine, but on my iMac G3, it pulls the disks in slowly and doesn't make any sound against the drive. Is this normal?

Yupp. It's normal. With most notebook optical drives you have to push the disk in about 3/4's the way in.

Yeah, my wife's mini does the same thing. I hate that ruckuss it makes.
It sounds like it's falling apart. It still works fine though, the noise
is just a little annoying.

why can't they make optical drives like the ones in my car, that so gently suck in the cd the minute it goes an inch in.

everytime i stick a damn cd in my imac i just cringe with that horrible mechnical noise it makes

The sounds my G4 Mini optical drive makes are nothing compared to the one in my MacBook. It sounds like the dang thing's talking in some alien language...
