i have a fairly new, 27in imac (bought it less than 6 months ago). it gets pretty hot, and i used smcFanControl to check the internal temperature, and it said it was at around 114deg Farenheight or ~43deg Celcius. I am wondering, is this a normal temperature? feeling the outside of the computer, it seems extremely hot and i would not want to leave my hand there for very long. no preformance issues or any other problems, just noticing.

what is the normal temperature that your imac (similar (new) models only please) is at? is mine above normal?

also, it seems like my fans never turn on past very low settings, although i have not been monitoring this, it is just from hearing inside the computer.

If that's the CPU you're talking about, that's very cool in terms of CPU temperature (My macbook runs around 125F with nothing running). It will feel hot, which is completely normal, and will not start to spin up fans until it gets a lot hotter than that. The CPU can take temps of over 200F, which it basically cannot reach due to the cooling system.

Totally normal temps. My 27" is about 2 months old and it's at 42C at this very moment. The computer is going to generate the same amount of heat regardless of how high the fans are running. All the fans are doing is moving the hot air- and at 42C it's not necessary for the fans to run. That said, I'm not terribly familiar with exactly when the imac will rev up its fans. For all I know they're always running slowly- the point is your computer is perfectly fine.
