Not unless you have a full license to XP or Vista those are only upgrades.

You need one of these.

Also unless you need remote desktop or to connect to domain based networks you do not need professional. As for ultimate if you do not need the features of pro plus encryption and language switching then you do not need that either.

As I have promised to do. Those System Builder Edition licenses will technically work, but you should be aware the you are deliberately putting yourself outside of the license for the SBE products according to Microsoft.

System Builder Edition products are not licensed to the end-user and are licensed ONLY for pre-installation on computers intended for resale to a third party. Again it'll work, but you are putting yourself in a situation similar to a Hackintosh.

This http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...116716&cm_re=windows_7-_-32-116-716-_-Product is the mainstream Windows to buy to be license compliant if you don't already have XP or Vista.

Can't you just install without the serial and then install again?

That workaround is supposed to have been disabled, although there have been some reports here of it still working. Again, that seems to violate the letter and spirit of the upgrade license if you don't actually have XP or Vista to upgrade.

W00DI have you looked at http://win741.com for the $29 for students deal? It seems it may also be an upgrade, but it really isn't clear from the advertising.
