In front of my MacBook Pro
So I'm getting a SR MBP (2.4 Ghz 15") and was entertaining the idea of getting it colorized. If I did this, it would be black, but would this really be a good idea? I'm sure it would void my warrantee, but they say they'll replace it with an "identical" warrantee. I'm not entirely sure if I could go through with it, but could you guys advise me?

there must be some kind of deal between them and Apple as there is 'colorwared" laptop that were indeed serviced by apple (read about it in a thread here i think).

They don't actually paint the laptop case do they, I just assumed it was a skin, so it can't actually void any hardware warranty.

A $449 paint job fo shizzle. Would look pretty killer in black although the keyboard will still be gray. Would have to wash and wax on a regular basis. Your car will be jealous. So cute, you can color your Zune. For those who purchased the brown ones and are suffering buyers remorse, well they now have salvation. Not sure on it voiding AppleCare but Colorware does provide a one year warranty and an extended one year warranty. Not sure on their pricing for the extended warranty.

although that seems pretty cool that is really expensive what they are charging to paint that mbp

To answer the original question, "Is this wise to do?", I'd have to say no. I can't see Apple servicing your laptop unless there is indeed a partnership between them and Colorware. Especially with a laptop (and a $2000+ one at that), which are more prone to problems than desktops, it's a lot of risk to take on. But hey, if you're feeling ballsy, go for it. It will look pretty damn sick, that's for sure.

Yeeah, I don't think I'll do it, although it sounds really cool. I don't want anyone messing with my baby (less than a month to go!), but once it starts aging... :D

$449? Seriously? For a paint job? On your brand new MBP? Nope....definitely not wise...;)

Didn't think so. I wouldn't dish out the $$$ anyway, I like $$$ for other things. But I will be making the MBP awesome with 4 GB of (non-Apple) RAM, and a WD 250 GB 5400 RPM HD (those should cost about the same as the paint job).

that company is crap. my old roommate was going to get a colored ipod and they completely ****ed him over. he got charged twice for it and then it took him like a month before they finally acknowledged that they did it and refunded all his money. don't buy anything from them.

not according to their disclaimer:

ColorWare Inc. is not an authorized reseller of Apple Inc. products. ColorWare Inc. replaces all existing Apple Inc. warranty policies and procedures with a ColorWare Inc. warranty, the documentation for which is included with all products purchased from ColorWare Inc.
MacBook, SuperDrive, iChat, Apple, iSight and MagSafe are trademarks of Apple Inc.

I think I'd pass. I want to keep my Applecare intact, plus I'm too cheap to pay that much for a paint job.

What a waste of money, why would you want to make your MacBook Pro look so horribly tacky? You will lose so much of the resale value too!

So, so tacky.

Rich.
