yeahhh... but with the upgraded ram and software bundled i think it outweighs... the extra 2gb is expensive, mostly because it's apple ram, and covered under warranty.
also the seller has been cooperative, the ram was taken from a 13" mbp that was upgraded to 4gb. all done by apple store.

Ram is cheap. Check out newegg.com or crucial. There are four slots in it there are still two open. It's crazy to buy apple RAM. You have only two years more with AppleCare. You buy from the refurb store the clock starts back at 0. You asked for an opinion there it is.
I cant for the life of me figure out why you'd run into problems regarding the ram. Take out the added 2GB stick if you run into problems and need to take it into the Apple store. They're not going to know that you had it in there.
You're also losing out on almost a year of apple care if you go with that ebay iMac.

you run into problems because at the apple store they check console and other system logs to see if the specs were changed at any time (have had this happen before to colleagues). it logs systems changes and part numbers of the change and if they're different, you're denied service on those parts i.e. if your memory goes bad (relatively common) you're out of luck. and such.
and BEYOND all of that there's a best offer option, i'm sure the seller would consider less.

The ram is the one thing you can change yourself without affecting at all the warranty (the iMac manual even explain to you how to do it)

Also, software aren't worth anything if they aren't legit. iWork it may be, Office too, but Photoshop CS4...a 700$ suite ? I doubt that. It had no value to the deal at all.
This don't apply to the RAM. They won't deny any service in the Apple Store even if there is third party RAM inside. Go check Apple Support FAQ for the iMac and RAM if you want...
Also, if the RAM happen to be faulty...then it is still under warranty from the company who made the RAM.
It's like complaining that Apple Warranty won't cover your USB Stick.
i agree about the photoshop. no discs, but the seller did verify identity of a student. photoshop was given to him because he is enrolled in the computer science concentration. fair enough. the rest of the software still rounds out the deal though in my mind.

You don't need a disc, but you need a legit serial number for the software. If he can't give you that, then it is of no more value than the bandwith necessary to download photoshop from BitTorrent.

iLife doesn't count, it come with every Macs. You just won't have to buy iLife.
Also, are iWork and Office legit ? Will you get the serial number and discs ?
serials. as i said, the discs are on university servers (dmg's) with licenses distributed to each user in the department (nearly quoted from seller lol)

i concur, i would go with a name you can trust(not some random person on ebay). If I go the route to trust people on ebay, I'm always looking for some really "personal" types of photos so I can say...see, this i just an avg person selling this item. It's worked out well this far!
