I hate bulkiness, but I like the idea of "bumper protection" for my S4 watch. Do you recommend any certain bumpers?

How many of you are not using a bumper with no ill effects? I am not sure what to do. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I do not use a bumper, only a screen protector and that works just fine for me. If my watch is not on my wrist, it's on the charger or I'm in the shower. That said, I am not exactly out working with my hands on a daily basis either. I have a desk job but I do use it in the gym, hiking, etc. I'm not sure what exactly your activities or occupation are. Would you put a bumper on your daily wear traditional watch if you could, assuming you wear one?

At one point I considered a bumper but saw reviews from people saying that dirt/debris got caught in between the bumper and watch case causing scratches on the watch case itself. Once I had read that, I opted to go without one. No regrets.

Bumpers are advantages in certain situations, if you go to the gym, I do see quite a few individuals using bumpers on their Apple Watch. The concern you have to have with the bumper, is around the casing, is that dirt and debris can get trapped inside, which can cause scratching or corrosion on the casing itself, you would want to make sure you remove the bumper to clean inside and around the Apple Watch.

I was considering getting the Zagg bumper; seems like it is made very well and is not bulky. I rock climb, work on my cars in my garage and do all kinds of other home projects with my watch. So far, only have the Zagg glass screen protector but I'm still thinking about it.

IMO the tiny nicks and scratches will look a lot better than a screen protector or bumper will.

Did you actually look at the Zagg product? I mean clearly having nothing is how Apple designed the thing but for example I don't think anyone will be able to tell if my watch has a screen protector without touching the watch.

I had screen protectors in the past. They would look good for a day or 2. Then I would do something unintentionally and brush the watch against something and the protector would peel off in a corner which would make it look worse than any scratch I have ever had in the last 4 years. I have had an aluminum S0 and S3. Also had the SS S2 and currently SS S4. The S0 was flawless when I upgraded and the S3 which I recently just sold had a couple very minor scratches that could only be seen when looking at certain angles/light conditions. I never babied the watches. Our of curiosity, are you using one of the tempered glass protectors for the watch or one of the rubbery/wet application ones?

In the last year I have started going caseless on my phone as well. I used to baby things, always putting on a screen protector and case on as soon as I bought it. Then I got to the point where I asked the question "Is it worth it?" and I realized that it just wasn't for me. I just use the device and if it gets a scratch or mark on it, no big deal. FWIW, the iPhone has a couple very light scratches, can be seen, but if you run your nail over them you cannot feel them.

I did like Zagg's lifetime warranty on screen protectors though. Back when the tempered glass protectors first started coming out for the iPhone 6 I probably went through 5-6 of them because they kept cracking around the curved edges. I guess I have now gone off on a tangent lol.

Wow, didn't realize Zagg was so affordable. To protect my series 2, with both the bumper and screen protector, it's only like $35....hmmmm, now I'm tempted.

Yeah I think we are a bit off topic to the side now LOL but yes - after failing to be happy with several film / wet application screen protectors (exactly for reasons you mention), I bought the Zagg glass one (dry application) and that is totally different. You can't tell where the edges are and edges do not peel. It has not been out for more than a few weeks so I can't quite tell this is a good long term solution. What is different about Zagg (it seems unique) is that their screen protector has adhesive on the whole protector vs. the edges only (other glass ones on Amazon I looked at.)

Funny story: on day one, the very first day that I went to indoor rock climbing with my watch (I had one of the wet applicator film protectors already on the screen) - I slipped of a small foothold when on the wall and awkwardly scraped the climbing wall with my watch screen. Had to replace the screen protector but that's it. I am fairly confident that my IonX screen was saved from scratches right there.

Figures, right? Day one. Never since!
