I was just wondering if TurboBoost speeds are working as expected? Now that people have their mac pros and are testing them, how is turboboost looking? Especially interested in hearing about 8 cores?

AFAIK the 8core boost to 97% of 3.9ghz, the 6core to95%. Don't know if the test metodology was accurate. The good thing is that the 8core seems to boost properly all the core to 3.4ghz.

On the 8 core I always see the CPU speed up at 3,4ghz, rarely ever above, sometimes 3,5 because so many tools I use utilize all of the cores. Cool thing is that the boost is active almost all the time. And the nMP never ramps up the fan or has too spin the turbo down due to heat issues.
The iMac can keep it up for a 20 minute render too, but man it gets loud!!

My single core geek bench score is about the same as on my old maxed out late 2012 iMac (which boosted up to 3,7ghz) though. Plus minus 10 points.

Multicore flies though! After effects renders a comp that previously took 24 minutes in 13 now!!!

Yes... You will not get the top advertised turbo boost speed (3.9 GHz) but this is to be expected actually. The other turbo speeds will kick in under the right conditions. Everything is explained here...

Thanks peabo! :)

If you guys want to see what speed your CPU is running at get the Intel Power Gadget. It would be great if we could take any analysis or new findings back to that previous thread (linked above) so everything is in one place.
