Is usb to sata adapter supposed to work?

Hi, I'm trying to use a USB 3.1 (Type-A) to 2.5-Inch SATA Adapter with my new M2 Mac Studio. I know it not supposed to work with a 3.5 inch HDD drive – I guess because it draws too much power – but it also doesn't work with an SSD – that needs a lot less power.

The same SSD works fine via a LC-DOCK-C - HDD docking station by the way.

I have three similar adapters with SSDs connected to my M1 Mac Studio…two directly and one on an unpowered 4-port hub…and they're all working fine.

I suspect something is wrong with the one you have.

Thanks. Meanwhile, I tried it on a USB-C port and now it's working fine (was on a USB-A port first). I didn't know this was of influence.
