Is Vista a Joke ?

i just installed vista on virtual box on my macbook.
install was fine, everything seemed ok.

Got to the log in box, typed in my password, hit enter.

BSOD almost instantly ! I actually laughed!

anyone else had bad problems with vista to prep me ?

I've had no problems with Vista 64-bit in Virtual Box.

I use it to train some of my clients. I have multiple virtual machines with varying versions of Vista. (Basic to Ultimate.)

Virtual Box works very well for being free.

It would be interesting to know what the BSOD error message was. It was likely a fault with Virtual Box if you haven't had a BSOD since.

Vista gets a bad rap - maybe it's well-deserved, maybe not - but I haven't had any real trouble. Onecare doesn't always update itself properly, but I get that on XP too.

There may come the interesting situation, that Windows 7 succeeds Vista, but 7 will have a VM for Vista's precessor - XP!

That would be like Snow Leopard having no Leopard emulation, but VM for Tiger... Or will Windows 7 have Vista emulation?

You get the XP VM for free when you download the new Virtual PC. You can build a Vista VM if you want but I cant think of any reason why you would need to. The stuff you need XP for can use the VM and for everything else there's Windows 7

Vista is better now than it was at release. That said with my Vista 64 installation I still get random 'Explorer is resetting' messages and I just find everything treacle like when compared to OSX Leopard.

If anything, moving to a Mac has highlighted many more flaws with Vista that I might not have noticed - stuff like its email client of IE7 taking too long to boot , log on taking much longer than OSX and when in, being unable to do anything because it is still doing background activities. Even its shutdown is measured in minutes whereas OSX is a mere few seconds.

Apart from ME I think Vista has been one of MS's low points.

My Comp stopped working.

Vista made our PC nearly stop working all together. Windows updater started going crazy and no programs would open at all. Thats when we switched that comp back to XP. Never thought I would be glad to see XP again!
