I am bit confused. I am pretty sure that in the past "Wi-Fi" was always visible next to carrier. Right now on iOS 18.0.1 I just can see WIFI icon next to the carrier. I am not sure if it means that WiFi calling works or not.
I tried to enable Airplane mode and "Wi-Fi" word showed just for a few second and then disappeared leaving wifi icon only. Same when I turned off Airplane mode.

It works still shows like on your first picture
But the problem is that after a while a word „wifi” disappears like on second picture. That’s the problem.
I toggled WiFi calling few times and now „WiFi” word is still on. Also during phone call but after I ended last call it disappeared but back on after a while. So strange.

Test it with Airplane mode with Wi-Fi on.
As I said. Right after turning it on WiFi word coming up and disappearing after few seconds. Right now WiFi word is still on after turning off and on WiFi calling in settings few times. Maybe there was a problem with orange carrier or my WiFi. I don’t know. I will be checking this and if it happens again I will reset network settings.
