Since getting my new iPhone SE, I’ve ended up with a couple of different wireless chargers (two Belkin stands, and an Aukey power bank with wireless charging built in).

This reduction in necessary lightning cables has encouraged me to look at retro-fitting my older (now backup) iPhone SE to use these wireless charging devices.

There seems to be a lot of wireless adapters available, and I got one from eBay for £1.99.

I was dubious how something so cheap could actually work, but for £1.99 I figured it was worth trying. It does work, and my old SE is currently charging up on my Belkin wireless charging stand.

The old SE does seem to get warmer than my new SE when charging, but not what you'd called "hot".

Has anyone else done this with their older iPhones? Have there been any issues with it that I should know about before I get carried away?

At the end of the day it should just act like a slow regular charger with these old devices. Wireless charging makes a lot of devices rather warm hence I’m not convinced that it’s any better (or worse) in day to day life except that the Lightning port isn’t used (with current devices of course) - a welcome alternative to charging in my opinion, the Lightning connectors died in my last two iPhones.

Interesting. Where did you get the wireless charging adapter?
Just off eBay. There are loads of them ranging from £1.99 upwards, also available on Amazon.

It plugs in to the lightning port and then sits between my case and the back of the phone. Seems to work.

I intend to use my old SE as a backup phone, and I don't want to keeping plugging it in so I'd probably forget it until it's too run down to use. This way, I can keep it topped up using the chargers I have for my new SE, and it'll be available if & when I need it.

Seems convenient enough, I just wanted to be sure the phone wasn't going to explode or anything like that. I get a bit paranoid when something is this cheap. :)

I've used those type before and can't say have ever had any bad experiences. I did notice that if I used my iPad charging block (18w I believe) instead of the iPhone charging block (5w), it would get a little warm. But I also had a case on the phone too (obviously to keep it in place). I don't know about long term battery health using these, but I'd assume it would be about the same as using a regular wireless charger. Just make sure it doesn't get hot when charging. Yes they are cheap, but essentially you're just getting the "guts" to a wireless charger so you're not paying for the housing, the charging cable, etc.

Thanks for giving your experience. It's reassuring.
