hello all I currently own a Imac 2.4 1gb ram 320 HD im thinking about selling it and upgrading to the 2.8 model 2gb 500 gb ram and just adding another 2gb ram to make it 4gb ram. My question is will i notice big upgrade in speed and is the upgrade worth it or should i try to get the 3.06 model any help would be great thanks.

If it's just for day to day computing you will never notice the difference. Why bother and if you need more HDD space just buy an external drive. Just max out your current machine at 4GB if you worry about performance.
I am going to go ahead and agree with this post here. However I would like to know, is it possible to have apple upgrade a hard drive?
Nope. Same as the above posters. If you do not hit the ceiling and merely use it for day to day computing, there's no need to upgrade as you will most likely get the same perceived "speed boost" if yu just reinstalled your system. Upgrade your ram or hdd (to a faster, not necessarily bigger one) if you must upgrade something.
I would have to agree with all the others you have posted, you would not get all your money back and you really would not notice a big difference.
You can get Apple to upgrade the hard drive if you take it to an Apple Store or an Apple Certified Technicians, or whatever they are called, get a larger hard drive installed.
One a side note, is it possible to upgrade an iMacs CPU yourself?

Thats good to know. If I ever get around to getting an iMac, I might just get a Core Duo one and upgrade it to a Core 2 Duo and save me some money and have a custom Mac also

Waste of money buying a new computer.
Upgrade the RAM to 4GB, and the computer's good for a long time yet. You would hardly notice any difference... with 4GB RAM, the machine should last you at least another 4 years or so.
Edit: Don't buy Apple RAM. It isn't any different from normal RAM, just five times the price. Just buy normal RAM that is the same type as Apple's RAM (should be on their support site) and you're good to go.

Agreed, I would get Patriot ram off of Newegg, I have used it in all my Macs, and it has worked flawlessly!!!
