iPhone is always expensive for me because I am not a phone enthusiast, at least I only probably use whatsapp and never play games or watch youtube
. From time to time I like to take pictures and videos, not professional though

I was happily ignore Xs and Xs max because they have quite a big price gap. However, my friend strongly discourages me from buying iPhone XR.

He knows that I will not upgrade the phone for another couple of years so he advises me either to get Xs or X

His reasons are
1. Bulky, heavy and look bad for the edges
2. Screen not as good as even X
3. One camera only

He also has a "strong" point, he said since it's the only X model that comes with all colorful color like yellow and blue so it's like iPhone 5c that they won't sell. Apple knows that they are just cheap version of iPhone X to fool people.

What do you think?

Some existing threads about this kind of thing, like the one at https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/to-people-who’ve-switched-to-the-xr-any-regrets.2164641/ might be of some help.

3. One camera only

How importance is that really though? I have the 8 and you can get brillant results from a single camera. I mean, a single good camera is worth 10 bad ones. By that I don't mean the XS has bad cameras, it has brillant cameras, but what's the value of an extra one if you get satisfactory results from 1?

1. Bulky, heavy and look bad for the edges

It's heavier than the X(S), yes. It's Bulkier too and has slightly thicker edges too... But in absolute terms, I'd say none of those are true. They are comparatively true to some degree, but I don't think the difference is that big really.

2. Screen not as good as even X

Well, the screen is an LCD, but what defines a good screen? It has a brillant resolution, it is RGB-layout as opposed to the pentile grid on the OLEDs, it is extremely color accurate and well color-managed. It also draws less power (in most circumstances). The OLED displays offer better black levels, but the LCDs can go a bit brighter, have no risk of potential burn-ins and no ghosting from the latency for turning on black pixels again.
All that is not to say that the OLED displays aren't brillant, but OLED and LCD each have their tradeoffs. The iPhone displays are best in class in their respective screen technology and the iPhone XR screen is superb, as is the X(S).

The XR will give you better battery life than the XS, albeit not a huge difference.

The one thing I'd see as a downside is the lack of 3D Touch, which is actually something I appreciate a lot.

I think the XR is a fine choice for you, if not an 8 or something.
