Is Yosemite reporting its version wrong?

I look at netmarketshares website every now and then, but i've noticed that Mac OS 10.1 has started appearing with 0.12% Marketshare in July (and smaller previous month). Im guessing this is Yosemite and not Puma since there is not trace of 10.2 or 10.3 showing, question is why is it showing as 10.1 and not 10.10?

Unlikely, the problem is probably caused by the site's tracker misreading the 10.10 and simply dropping the ending zero due to an over site by the script writer.

Correct. Many sites checking for a single digit after the "10." Likely it's to account for all the smaller point versions after each major release, like 10.9.0, 10.9.1, 10.9.2, 10.9.3, 10.9.4 etc. The code would simply check for "10." and use the first digit after that.

Unfortunately, it also affects some software installers too. Some people here have been reporting that the Java installer won't install because of this.

This problem arose in the future as well, but to a lesser degree, with the Mac OS X 10.4.10 update. Some programs that checked the installed version of Mac OS X would refuse to run or installed until you changed the system version back to 10.4.9.
