Will iSight work with aMSN?
Any plugins needed whatsoever?
I'm planning to do video with iSight through MSN.
What client must the Windows user use? The standard MSN Messenger client?

EDIT: Is iSight just a webcam? Can it be used as a Digital Camera? is it portable whatsoever?It will only work when there's a com connected to it? Will it work solely?

The iSight is just a webcam. It can't be used as a digital camera unless you count using QuickTime to create a video recording, and exporting individual frames from that recording, as a digital camera function. It only works with a computer attached. It won't work by itself.

Can you do video conversation with Mac Messenger? I know it is possible with MSN Messenger.

Connected to your Mac you can use the iSight as a video camera. It will record movies directly into iMovie for as much HDD space you want to make available to it. You can then edit this movie in iMovie and iDVD.

If you want to use it for time lapsed movies I recommend getting Boinx iStop Motion

There is no support for video chatting in the official Microsoft Messenger (or MSN Messenger for Mac, they're the same thing). However, there is support for video chatting with PC MSN Messenger users in aMSN.

I haven't tried it, but, from what I've read, there are no required plugins - video support is built into the application. However, I have read that PC users have been having problems seeing the video coming from the Mac end of the conversation.

Yes, MSN Messenger for PC does support video conversation but I suppose not for Mac.

Why do you continue to ignore my post and pm's? We had a deal to trade my iSight for your Airport Express, you received the iSight Oct. 5 and never sent my Airport. I doubt you would seeing that you ignore my messages, but care to explain? I guess it's kind of funny that you would be posting in an iSight thread.

how do u get your Isight cam to work in aMSN? i can view others webcam but the cant view me. The cam doesnt even turn on when i send an invite to view my webcam, please help!!!

Yeah, you're missing the "a" in aMSN.

Well... That's not entirely true... You can use it as a digicam if you use Photo Booth... Or sort of a digicam...

aMSN 'webcam's just fine, no 'video chat.

Test setup: MacBook Pro with 10.4.7 and the latest version of aMSN (0.95 12/22/2005) connected wirelessly to my DSL connection, and a Pentium-M PC with XP with all the latest updates, a Logitech QuickCam Web, running the latest Windows Live Messenger connected wirelessly to the same DSL connection.

The PC can 'Start a Video Call' to another Windows Live Messenger-running PC just fine. (It produces a video chat roughly equivalent to iChat's in style, but worse quality.) When I try to 'Video Call' to aMSN, it complains that it's not capable of that, but it can do a normal 'Webcam' chat, "You just received a video conversation (bidirectional audio and video) request. This feature is not yet supported by aMSN and has been canceled. However, you can still use the standard webcam conversation." It even offers two links to start the webcam chat.

When I try a 'Webcam' chat, it works just fine, both directions. But, this is just transmitting 1-2 frame per second webcam video, with no audio. (aMSN says "Audio/Video requests are not supported on Mac OS X, only Webcam") For the webcams, I have to both 'Send My Webcam' and 'View My Contact's Webcam'. MSN doesn't do two-way by default. It considers each direction separate.

Well smarty-pants, when I posted that on October 10, 2005, the first Macs to ship with Photo Booth had not yet been announced.

The iMac G5 (with iSight and Photo Booth) was introduced to the world on October 12, 2005.
