My iMac sits pretty far back on my desk which I find comfortable, but the wide angle of the lens puts me pretty small in the frame when video conferencing.

The first thing I thought of were those little clip-on lenses they make for phones -- does anything like those exist for the iMac?

You can just buy one for the phone and try it on the iMac.
Just buy a cheap one.
Some modifications are necessary, but it doesn't do any harm to the camera anyhow.
Or you can hang an eyeglass in front of the iSight camera to see whether it will give you some zooming or not.

I know it's been a few months, but I was curious whether OP had discovered a solution. I'm having the same issue.

Nothing yet. I did dig up a set of little cheap clip-on iPhone lenses with the intention of trying them out and then promptly forgot about it. Your comment reminded me! I'll try it out and see if it works.

update: the kit only contained wide-angle lenses, which made the problem worse and introduced distortion to boot (they're cheap lenses). The holder clipped nicely onto the iMac bezel, however, so this approach could work with the right lenses.

I had my fingers crossed! The camera is so amazing; I just wish that it didn't show so much of the background behind me! (I guess that's what Zoom's virtual backgrounds are for until I figure something out.)
