I am considering buying isight as a xmas gift to myself and want to know is it worth getting now. ( i dont really need it but want one) Will the prices go down since new macs seem to have it built in and Does it work with MSN Messenger.

I would love not to spend $150 buxs but all the others out there are $100 anyway and severly lack.

Help

The iSight has remained the same for the past 2 years I believe. With little change in prices / specs. I don't think well see any change here soon. I suggest you buy one, but I hope you have someone to chat with that has a webcam too, otherwise its pointless.

Actually if you don't have anyone to chat with (you can only use your iSight with iChat to iChat and I think AIM) you can use it for other things as well.

For example you can create stop motion movies using iStop Motion or you can publish your webcam using streaming video with Evo Cam . I use iStop Motion quite a bit and it is really very good. You can also record video with your iSight directly into iMovie.

I sorta found my iSight to be a waste of money. $150 for a webcam is huge. I have never been able to convince my windows friends to jump thru the hoops needed to chat with me. They all use MSN messenger and trying to get them to download anything else to maybe be able to video chat with me was fruitless. Mostly i just chat with like 2 Mac people and the only reason I know them is cause they were in the same position as me.

I have an iSight and I use it. It helps that I have a new daughter and she has computer saavy grandparents in other states. Were it not for her and for them, I'd have trouble justifying it.

It's a shame you didn't think of the new iSight on Black Friday. Apple had it on sale for $32 off regular price and with free shipping from their web site.

Yeah, I was going to say that too. I jumped on that deal, but have to wait until Christmas to use it.
