So I'm going to be getting a sleeve for my 15.4" Macbook Pro soon, and I had my eye on this sleeve. It's by Isis.

http://isiscovers.com/macs.html (It's the one in the top right. The Nouveau.)

Does anybody have any experience with this sleeve? I'd really like it to fit like a glove so there are no bumps or loose parts. (The picture looks kinda rumply/wrinkled.)

Do the zippers scratch if you aren't careful?

What are people's experiences with memory foam?

Is the design too girly? (I'll get it anyways, but w/e).

Thanks in advance!

Isis cover

I like the isis covers. i have the allyson, and my buddy has the nouveau. the memory foam is cool b/c it's WAY firmer than the neoprene, and they're mac specific (at least the one i got) so it fits snug. they have this little lip on the inside, so i've never had an issue with scratching (i've got a 13").

I got a tucano for just over $20. It's a neoprene, but it was made for the 17" MBP. It also has a lip inside that wraps around where the zipper is so that it won't damage the laptop. I like it because it fits into my backpack without taking up too much space.

just got mine

I was looking for a memory foam sleeve myself, as the STM Rebounds got discontinued. Initially I got STM Glove, but then came across the Isis Covers option. My black isis for the new macbook pro came in today (took 3 days to ship), and after using it once I am very happy with the quality of it. Although I do find that it's hard to zip around the corners as it feels almost too tight. Maybe the material will give in a little over time.

Now my only problem is who would like my barely used STM Glove? :)

What does memory foam feel like? Is it thick enough to feel like it'll really protect the computer? I bought an incase neoprene one but it doesn't fit my new 15.4" MBP snugly (width wise it's fine, it's too big depth wise though, I think b/c it was made for an earlier version with different dimensions). I'd love to get something different that fits snugly, I'm jealous of my friends with macbooks whose incase neoprene sleeves fit perfectly! I also like the patterns you can get with the isis ones, and the price is totally reasonable. I'd just worry about not being able to feel it before buying.

I'd say thickness-wise it's about double the neoprene case I had (STM glove). I like the feeling of it a lot better. The principle is like those memory foam pillows you see in stores, but more dense. Press on it and it will give in more than the neoprene eventually, but not as fast. Depress it and slowly but surely it will come back to original thickness. I think it's supposed to diffuse the point pressure better, and I worry less about my laptop pressing against books or magsafe in a simple backpack I use.

Hope this helps.

Yesterday I bought a Gecko Pro Sleeve It's like the Booq Vyper only it's stronger (due to the design) and less expensive. It's memory foam except it's not as squishy as the isis sleeve is.

Are these Isis cases carried by any common stores? I saw there's a shop in San Diego or LA or something but I'm near San Francisco and it seems that unless you're near one of the ten or fifteen shops then you're out of luck for feeling it before you buy.

Bern, In what way is it stronger? I have been looking at the booq vyper, for my mbp, and I really like it, but what, besides the price makes the gecko better?

Thanks.

Yeah, it's always kind of a leap of faith buying something over the internet without seeing it first. I think Isis is a pretty new company, so most of the stuff seems to be internet based (where I got mine from). I emailed them, and they said the Allyson and original were a little stiffer than the others, so get those if you want maximum protection. The material stretches a little, but nothing like neoprene. You can see all their stuff at www.isiscovers.com

I picked up a memory foam Isis sleeve for my 13", and though it's very nice and the foam is properly firm while pleasantly squishy, it's not as tight around the computer as I'd like. Once in and zipped up, I can still feel a bit of space/air around it. Anyone else have this problem? Any reason to think that it would shrink with use?

I suppose the extra space would come in handy if I ever put one of those Speck cases (or whatever) on my macbook....

I use the Tucano Neoprene for protection, have heard a lot of people ripping on it saying that the MBP is loose inside it. Well thats a load of rubbish to anyone thats interested.

Its a good sleeve and you can say its Italian which has a nice showy off ring to it lol. BTW Im terrible for that!!! :)

Ahhh...that's exactly what I have been searching for. I didn't want a neoprene sleeve and they seem to be everywhere. In fact I wondered if anyone made a memory foam sleeve.

So thanks for the post, I just ordered the Allyson.:D

Just got my 2 one in..... loving it

So I just got my Nouveau memory foam sleeve, and I'm kinda disappointed. Its hard to zip up as the foam lip to protect the laptop from the zipper ALWAYS gets in the way of/stuck on the zipper when I'm trying to close it. Without fail, every time.

Also, when it is finally closed, my laptop is very loose inside, with a good half inch of room on both the top and bottom of the case. It makes it look all lumpy and big and nasty.

Additionally, the top of the case doesn't stay up on the back of the screen when my laptop is open, which was an advertised feature of the case. Also, its impossible to plug anything in to the ports when I'm working with my Macbook Pro open in the case. It constantly knocks out the Magsafe and always gets in the way of the USB.

Overall, should have gone with a Sumo Case. Very diappointing.

This has been my experience verbatim as well. I love the memory foam feel to the case, but it has it's limitations (could certainly be thicker, that's for sure). There are better sleeves out there, but it's still a very good sleeve, especially for the price.

EDIT: The one real positive is zipper protection. It has a higher foam lip on the inside as opposed to other sleeves, which protects the mbp better from the zipper, so even with a looser fit around a corner or two your mbp will still be protected.

UPDATE BUMP:

I was contacted by Isis and told my comments on the sleeve were not indicative of how it should fit. They said they will be sending me a new sleeve free of charge, and I can keep the original one too. I offered it back, but they said no. I post this because customer service is HUGE to me, and after such a quick, professional and courteous handling of the situation, I feel Isis deserves a lot of praise. They treat their customers right, and obviously stand by the product, which is all you can ask for. I will post how the new sleeve fits compared to the first one when I get it. GREAT JOB SO FAR ISIS!

Yeah, the Rebound was good but my zipper started tearing after about 3 months of use and last month the whole left side tore apart from where it was sewn into the memory foam. I bought an Isis Cover before I saw jawzzy's complaint blog and I have to say the cover fits my Macbook better than even the Rebound did. The only minor complaint I have is I wish the cover had an YKK zipper. It could zip up a little smoother (I think the invisible zipper has something to do with that) but other than that I don't think you can get a cover of this quality for $22. I rate the cover a 9/10.

I had been looking around for a sleeve that will provide some more protection as well as sleeve that will take up some space in my SwissGear Synergy backpack. I order the booq Vyper M2 sleeve, and once I got it I was happy all except for the padding inside, everything else was great, the way it fit, protection, and zipper protection. So now I am back in the market for a sleeve with some padding as well as a snug fit. I know the Isis sleeve have memory foam in them, but do they fit snug enough to where they don't move around once zipped?

I have the Booq sleeve if anyone is in the market for one:)
