i just got an iskin cover as a gift for my new mbp, and while i am not one of the heat freaks u read about here and elsewhere, but is it a good idea? it seems if the cooling input is the keyboard and this thing is almost a prophylactic that covers the entire keyboard area, how is the air going to get in?

i am not really worried as i know, at least in the sony world, heat is not a big deal unless you mind burning your skin when u handle one. i have a tr3 with a broken fan and in the summer it's running non-stop as a server at 80+. in the winter it runs cooler:) its been like that now for 2 years well beyond the warrenty period. i suspect the mbp is a lot more heat resistent then the cheapo sony...so why worry? hmmmmm...where is that apple care link?

don't know about MBP, but I've used an iSkin on my PB 1.67 for over a year. Haven't noticed any substantial increase in heat per the temperature sensors, maybe a degree or two but nothing major.

My mum and sister use an iSkin on their MB's. I tell them if the fan goes crazy, or goes quite fast, or they feel the machine is quite hot, just remove it for a bit and let more air circulate. For the most part it's fine though.

I've been using an iSkin on my MacBook for over a year and everything seems fine. Enjoy your purchase.

After an incident including a house party, a guitarr, a bottle of beer and a MB, the keyboard of my friends MB got drenched. Luckily, I didn't do it, however it was I that put the beer a bit too close to the MB.

Since I don't want anything like that to happen to my MB I'm thinking of buying an iSkin or rather the cheap eBay copys:

Does anyone have any experience from those skins?

and BTW, I'm thinking of buying one for my friend as well - so when he recievs his MB from Apple Service the same won't happen again.

Not sure if the cooling is similar to the MB but I've used a keyboard cover for over 10 months and recommended this to others. Have not noticed any heat issues with the Macbook on the desk vs on the iCurve.

Definitely get one though, you'll notice all the gunk that would have fallen under the keyboard :)

Personally, I never liked these. Can't get used to typing on a piece of plastic.

They do an excellent job of protecting from spills but are ineffective against communicable diseases.
