Isn't a clean install with no backup stupid if iOS uses sandboxes?

Follow me... iOS doesn't include system files in backups. It's all sandboxed. It just includes data like photos or messages. Now, what's the point of setting up the phone as new? There can't be "junk" in a backup. It's just about data! Maybe, there may be a corrupt setting file, but in that case it's just about restoring your settings directly from General. What do you think?

You are right, but in forums like this people will always suggest to set the phone as new. Basically a waste of time...

"reset all settings" fixes a lot of issues in iOS. I'm assuming those corrupt settings also get backed up.

Sure, but it's just about restoring your settings from the phone without data loss. Setting up as new erases everything, and you can't get your messages or metadata back.

It's a choice I guess. I always to clean installs and usually don't have most of the issues people report here who restore from a backup.

Usually resetting settings will do the trick, but a fresh restore can still be seen as better by some just to completely eliminate any other possibilities of something weird going on somewhere. Usually this would mainly apply when dealing with some problems and troubleshooting them.

I wanted to set up as new with iOS 9, because there's certain things that are slower on my restored iPhone 6, than when i tried going "as new".
Phone boot up takes a good 20 seconds longer.
App switching has a 1 second delay before I can interact with an app.
Opening an app takes a little too long to launch from a tap, and to actually load.

When i tried "as new" briefly, boot up was quicker; apps opened faster; less stutter when switching apps.

I wish there was a method of restoring "as new" but still keeping app data. Heath data too; I'd go as new but don't want to lose all my health data history.
