In search of an HDMI splitter that connects via HDMI directly to rear of monitor for extended display on second monitor using MBP units.

Typically swap out two MBP units — one a 2013 build and another 2024 — using the same two monitors; and for one of those monitors need to directly connect a splitter to avoid directly plugging/unplugging HDMI cable that leads to either of the MBPs.

Most splitters advertised on Amazon are for Windows units, writing that because Mac doesn’t support MST [multi-stream] a splitter dongle only mirrors content, which is useless when there’s a need to extend.

HDMI itself does not support MST, so an extended desktop splitter as you describe does not exist and cannot be built.

Ok, it “could” be built, but such a device would be high complexity, expensive and low volume, so I doubt you’ll fine one.
