I been trolling around this forum for a month and I find this site to be very educational and a great resource. :)

I am a switcher from PC to :apple: since 2 of them recently kicked the bucket (HP and Sony). I was initially planning to get a Mac Pro but realized real quick that I should take some baby steps before spending big dollar amounts that I have no idea how things work in the Mac world. Mini overall just fit my needs for now.

Anyways, my issue: I noticed that my 4th usb port from the left of the mini is not working. I tried plugging in my mighty mouse, apple keyboard and external hard drive. I get absolutely no response. While the other ports, work fine.

I have been reading this forum and was able to upgrade my base 2.0Ghz model to 320GB Hitachi 7K and 4GB of RAM. More nerve racking than anything else but do you think I might have done something inside that caused that 4th usb slot not to function? I would hate to take my Mini apart and put back the original RAM and Hard Drive just to take it back to the Apple store

Also, can someone recommend a 800 FW hub that I can attach multiple 800 FW external HD that is reliable? I like to use it for my current 1TB Seagate external HD for storing all my 1080 films and as well as photos. Like to have another external HD for Time Machine.

Thanks for all your help!

This doesn't mean what you think it means.

Oh, I am new to this posting stuff on forums. Guess trolling means something bad then?

Okay. It seems likeI am out of luck with the USB issue. I probably did something when I was upgrading the Mini. I can live with it.

I am really starting to like the look and feel of my mini! Intuitively, so much easier once you start playing with it in my opinion.

Going back to the other question: can I hook up a firewire hub onto a mini and have 2 external hard drive hooked up to the firewires? OWC sells Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and FireWire 6-Port Hub for Mac mini. Or will it damage my mini?

Well you might not be out of of luck. You can try and return it under warranty. But if you upgraded it yourself then Apple might push back on the warranty claim by saying you "broke" the USB port when upgrading your Mac Mini.

You can daisy chain FW devices. No need for a hub. But yeah no reason you can't hook up a FW or USB hub.
