So I have the base model of the current gen 13in air and im having some issues.
The air was working fine for the first couple monthes or so. But recently the air has been freezing, shutting down on it's own, and not waking from sleep A LOT. Its almost everyday now that I have to press and hold the power key because the computer is either completely frozen or won't come out of sleep. And, like I said, it boots down by itself a lot too. I was writing an essay for one of my classes, went to get a cup of water, and when I came back it was off.

What could be wrong with it?
Is this normal for flash-based systems?

That does not sound normal at all. I would book an appointment at the Genius Bar so they have a look.

It happens really randomly but often. Will they even consider it a problem if I am not able to reproduce it there?

They can take it in for testing, tough then you would have to be without it for few days.

I have had the same problem. It is extremely annoying. I've been to the genius bar 5 times! Here's what happened:

1) they gave me a brand new machine - you really got to hand it to Apple customer service. The rep could not reproduce the problem because, as you are experiencing, was random. She said I wouldn't have come in at 7AM if it wasn't happening and since she couldn't find anything on the machine, she swapped it out for a new one.

2) the new machine had the same problem - was told to due a full restore and only copy any files/applications back manually. they believed it was a software issue. I started taking screenshots of the error messages I was getting at reboot.

3) they thought it was a battery problem and swapped out the battery.

4) they then thought it was a logic board issue and changed it

5) when i proved i was still having the issue they swapped it out for a new one again

I am now on my third MBA and still have the problem on occasion. It's been about 2 weeks now. I am at my wits end and have no idea what to do. It just seems like an issue with MBA in general.

Right now I will just deal with it, but it is frustrating!:mad::mad:

I've had it happen a few times as well. It happened yesterday. Opened the lid, waited, waited some more, then pressed and held the power button, screen flashed briefly, but still didn't come on.

Had to press and hold the power button a couple of times, it then came out of sleep, rather than restarted.

One thing I have noticed is that occasionally it will wake up, but the screen backlight is off, and if the ambient light is right, you can't tell that its woken up.

Quite annoying, but only happens occasionally.

I've had this happen a few times. I could tell it had woken up from sleep but the backlight was completely off.
